Craftsmanship & Quality
How we work
Every SANSER piece is made to last. From the choice of setting technique to the final polish, we apply time-tested methods and strict quality control so that each item meets both our standards and the expectations of those who wear it.
Setting Techniques
The way a stone is set affects its security, appearance and long-term durability. We use classic techniques and choose the most appropriate for each stone and design.
- Prong (claw) setting: Metal claws hold the stone at the girdle, allowing maximum light entry and brilliance. Used for solitaires and many centre stones. We ensure prongs are adequately sized and regularly checked for wear.
- Bezel setting: A metal collar wraps around the stone's circumference, offering strong protection and a smooth profile. Ideal for active wear or softer stones.
- Pavé: Small stones set close together with minimal metal visible, creating a continuous sparkle. Each stone is held by small beads or prongs; we maintain consistent spacing and security.
- Channel setting: Stones are set in a groove between two metal walls, with no prongs. Often used for side stones or eternity bands; we ensure a precise fit to prevent movement.
- Halo: A ring of smaller stones surrounds a centre stone, enhancing perceived size and brilliance. We match the halo stones for colour and size and secure them with care.
Mixed techniques are used where the design demands it. Our aim is always to balance aesthetics with security and durability.
Polishing & Finishing
After setting, every piece undergoes multiple stages of polishing and inspection. Metal surfaces are finished to the standard required by the design: high polish for a mirror shine, brushed or satin for a softer look, or a combination. Selected white gold styles are rhodium-plated for colour consistency and resistance to wear.
Edges are smoothed, joints are clean, and the piece is checked for any remaining tool marks or defects. We do not consider a piece complete until it passes our final quality check.
Quality Control
Quality control runs through the entire process, from raw materials to finished goods.
- Materials: Precious metals are verified for fineness and weight; principal stones are matched to certificates (e.g. GIA, IGI) where applicable. We do not mix certified and uncertified stones in a way that could mislead.
- Setting: Stones are checked for security, alignment and absence of damage during setting. Prongs, beads and channels are inspected for consistency and strength.
- Finishing: Final polish and plating are checked under magnification and in normal light. We reject any piece that does not meet our standards.
- Documentation: Each piece is accompanied by the relevant information: metal content, stone description and, where applicable, laboratory reports. This ensures you receive what was specified and can care for the piece appropriately.
Every SANSER piece is made to withstand professional scrutiny. We stand behind our craftsmanship and will address any defect in materials or workmanship in accordance with our Terms of Service and applicable law.
From Design to Delivery
Our atelier combines traditional hand skills with modern quality standards. Designs are realised by experienced setters and polishers who understand the behaviour of precious metals and gemstones. Where we work with external partners (e.g. for specialised techniques), we apply the same quality and ethical requirements.
